Dr Kellie Pendoley elected to the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) Board of Directors

In recognition of 25 years of experience, knowledge, and ongoing research in the field of Artificial Light at Night (ALAN), Dr Kellie Pendoley has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA).

The IDA is a non-profit organization that uses science, and the pooled ability and experience of its board members, to create solutions to protect the night skies from light pollution. The IDA also has multiple other important functions, including conducting research and providing services to investigate the impacts of light pollution on wildlife and ecosystems, nuisance lighting in local neighbourhoods, crime and safety, night sky heritage, human health, and energy waste and minimisation.

Dr Kellie Pendoley has been actively involved in the development of technology to meaningfully measure and monitor ALAN for over 25 years, and has successfully developed patented technology and custom acquisition software: the Sky42TM. Her research has assisted the oil and gas, mining, and ports industries, to minimise and manage light pollution, and has improved our understanding of the impacts of light on seabirds and marine turtles.

Is there nuisance light in your neighbourhood? If you have a lighting ordinance in place, Pendoley Environmental can measure your neighbourhood light emissions to find out if nuisance lighting exceeds regulations in your area.
